• Impulse control disorders (ICDs) are adverse effects linked to dopaminergic therapy in Parkinson’s disease • ICDs have potentially devastating effects on patients and families • Agonism of D3 receptors and immediate release formulations consistently induce higher risks • All dopamine agonists show high risk of ICD and levodopa should continue to be primary treatment • Agents such as rotigotine, pramipexole extended release or apomorphine infusion may be preferred where add-on treatment is necessary
