• FTIR was first used for in-situ assessment in high-enthalpy thermal environments. • A 3000 K-capable spectral emissivity measurement system was developed. • A novel method for capturing surface radiation in plasma jet heating was proposed. • The overall and relative uncertainty are both less than 2.04% and 2.47% respectively.
