• Preferable condition for aerosolized virus inactivation experiment were identified. • Pulsed electric field (PEF) can inactivate enveloped and non-enveloped viruses. • PEF achieved > 3-log reductions against both types of aerosolized viruses. • cDNA concentrations of viruses did not change under any PEF application conditions. • PEF possibly inactivates viruses by altering their host recognition site proteins.
