To reduce dust pollution from tunnel boring, we constructed a negative-pressure double-pumping ventilation control and dust removal system. We used a combination of numerical simulations and onsite measurements. The system reduced the overall dust concentration in the tunnel and the dust concentration in the operation area of the roadheader driver. The average dust concentration in the tunnel was 126.17 mg/m3 (improvement: 70.66%), and that at the driver of the roadheader was <131.82 mg/m3 (improvement: 68.61%). The optimal air extraction volume (QA) of extraction cylinder A (CA) was 100 m3/min, and the optimal air extraction volume (QB) of extraction cylinder B (CB) was 300 m3/min. We verified the accuracy of the numerical simulations by combining with onsite measurements, and in so doing have provided new ideas and methods for dust management in the working face of the comprehensive excavation face.
