• Effect of Fe loading and temperature on methane pyrolysis was investigated. • Sawdust-supported catalysts demonstrated higher and more stable methane conversion. • 10% Fe on sawdust biochar exhibited CH4 conversion >85% at 900°C. • Multiwall nanotube formation at high temperature was observed. • Fe/Biochar produced longer, smoother, and more uniform MWCNTs.
