• Scots pine litter promotes slow-cycling SOC in labile free light fraction (FLF) pools. • Nitrogen-fixers and oak enhance protected and mineral-associated fractions. • Black alder yields highest glomalin-related soil protein (GRSP) at 6.52 mg g⁻1 (0–10 cm). • GRSP correlates strongly with OLF-C and MAF-N, aiding aggregation.
