• The creep-fatigue life of T91 steel in LBE decreases with increasing hold time. • Longer hold times accelerated oxidation and Pb-Bi penetration along grain boundaries. • Stress promoted the microstructural evolution and damage at the oxidation front. • Pb-Bi promoted crack branching along high-angle grain boundaries.
