• The size of the Ag nanoparticles is controllably coated onto the LiMn2O4 surface by adjusting the decomposition temperatures of AgNO3. • An Ag nanoparticle coating layer with the largest size with 10.02 nm can reduce the decomposition of the electrolyte and improve ion diffusion kinetics. • The Ag/LiMn2O4 heterostructure with the largest Ag size exhibits outstanding capacity retention of 84.45% after 1000 cycles at 5C.
