• Deep fault systems control inter-basin groundwater flow (IGF) on the Tibetan Plateau. • Hydrogeochemical evidence identifies IGF from Nam Co Lake to adjacent basins. • IGF migrates southward along shallow, middle, and deep fault-controlled pathways. • Carbonate and silicate dissolution regulate IGF evolution at different depths. • IGF mixing ratios range 1-26.5%, contributing <6% to adjacent river runoff.
