• Membraneless redox flow batteries were fabricated and modeled. • 3D channel shape was designed to mitigate the fluid interdiffusion. • Reactants concentration, kinetics, and velocity were measured. • Reactants interdiffusion is decreased in the improved RFB channel design. • Our methodology is an interesting candidate to improve the RFB cyclability.
