In this study, natural dyes extracted from Cotinus coggygria (CC), Prunus padus (PP), and Prunus cerasifera (PC) were evaluated as sensitizers for TiO2-based dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). A systematic set of photophysical, electrochemical, photovoltaic, and impedance measurements was performed under identical fabrication and testing conditions to clarify the structure-performance relationships of the three extracts. Among the investigated sensitizers, the PC-based device delivered the best performance, with a short-circuit current density of 2.87 mA cm−2, an open-circuit voltage of 0.52 V, and a power conversion efficiency of 0.99%. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy further showed that the PC-sensitized cell exhibited lower charge-transfer resistance and more favorable charge-transport behavior. The observed correlation between electron-injection driving force and photocurrent density indicates that interfacial electron injection is the dominant parameter governing device performance. This study therefore provides a controlled comparison of Anacardiaceae and Rosaceae-derived sensitizers prepared using the same fabrication route and demonstrates that anthocyanin-rich Rosaceae extracts offer more consistent and efficient sensitization. The results provide practical guidance for the selection and optimization of plant-based sensitizers in sustainable DSSC technologies.
