• In-situ formation of the Mo-Mo3Si alloy was obtained by EB-PBF. • Cracks are generated mainly at the top due to the higher Mo3Si fraction. • Columnar grains of Mo3Si are surrounded by α-Mo phase. • The microstructure shows a gradual change along the building direction.
