• A parallel multigrid (PMG) solver is developed using meshless geometric multigrid and domain decomposition. • A simple and effective parameter is proposed to guide single-domain computation at coarser PMG levels. • Performance of three methods with coarse matrix aggregation (CMA) in PMG is quantitatively compared. • Super-linear scalability is achieved for problem sizes over 1 million using fewer than 64 processors.
