• A collapsible flow-guiding airbag is designed to reduce amphibious vehicle drag. • Water impingement in the wheel-body gap is the primary source of high drag. • The airbag mitigates water impingement to reduce drag and improve attitude. • Towing tank tests confirm a 38.30% drag reduction and suppressed bow splash.
