Abstract

Phase change materials (PCMs) can absorb/release significant amounts of heat and be used in thermal energy storage technologies to reduce energy consumption. In this work, Janus-faced-carbon cloth was synthesized as scaffold and polyethylene glycols (PEG 1000 and 6000) were used as phase change materials. The Janus-faced structure of the prepared scaffold allows absorption of PCMs from one side and prevents leakage of PCMs from the other side. The prepared PCMs composites with preserving high melting enthalpy of PEGs show heat storage during the heating and heat release during the cooling steps. The prepared PCMs composites were used for thermal energy storage successfully when the heat is produced via various methods including photothermal conversion, electro-thermal conversion and conventional heating. The flexible structure of the prepared PCMs composites, allows wrapping on the surface of any sensitive electric device and prevent it from heat shock during heating or cooling steps.
