• [K+-Ce3+] replacing [Ba2+-Ba2+] induces a phase transition in Ba2.96P4O13:Eu2+. • Doping with small amounts of [K+-Ce3+] enhances luminescence of the phosphor. • The color of Ba2.96-2xKxCexP4O13:0.04Eu2+ can be adjusted from cyan to warm white. • Ba2.96-2xKxCexP4O13:0.04Eu2+ phosphor has potential applications in warm WLED.
