• This work presents the first report of Keggin-type transition metal–substituted heteropolyanion-sensitized silicon composite photoelectric materials: Cs5PW11O39M(II)(H2O) (M=Cu, Mn, and Co). • Cs5PW11O39M(II)(H2O)/Si (M=Cu, Mn, and Co) composites with mastoid-like morphology possess enhanced photon-to-electron conversion efficiency. • This work originally bring Keggin-type transition metal–substituted heteropolyanions in the field of photoelectric conversion.
