• Comprehensive TG-DTG, SEM-EDS and elemental analyses clearly reveal WCS heterogeneity. • Isoconversional kinetics show strong Ea(α) variation confirming a multistep pyrolysis. • Lognormal deconvolution resolves five overlapping DTG peaks with excellent accuracy. • Compensation analysis confirms genuine physicochemical origin of WCS pyrolysis. • Compensation showed advances structural disordering in polymer-to-char transformation.
