• Develop a large deformation mechanical model for bimodular deep spherical shells. • Provide a unified theoretical framework for deep and shallow spherical shells. • Analyze deformation behaviour of opening and non-opening spherical shells. • Bimodular effects can either aggravate or suppress snap-through instability. • Base radius-thickness ratio and half apex angle influence deformation modes.
