• Lateral load on stabilizing piles is determined under seismic condition. • Soil arching effect is considered in the analysis. • Both vertical and horizontal stress transfer mechanisms are considered. • Results show that after a critical value of kh the arching effect reduces significantly. • Total lateral load on the pile can increase by 120% when kh increases from 0 to 0.3
