• A field-based dataset focusing on sheet-like residual film in cotton fields was constructed. • A lightweight improved YOLOv11n model was developed for residual-film detection. • Enhanced backbone and attention mechanisms improve robustness under complex field backgrounds. • An improved MPDIoU loss enhances localization accuracy for irregular residual-film targets. • The model was successfully deployed on Jetson Nano for real-time agricultural machinery use.
