Homologous oligomeric alkylpyridinium surfactants have been prepared by an elimination-addition reaction that is simpler to perform and easier to control than conventional synthesis or polymerization. It can be carried out in a variety of protic solvents, or performed in situ on aqueous solutions of self-assembled monomeric surfactant. (C) 2009 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
