Abstract
En 中文
• Loneliness predicted premature mortality in 8351 adults across an 11-year period. • Purpose in life mediated the loneliness-mortality relation. • Mediation was driven predominantly by loneliness-related declines in purpose. • Effects held adjusting for depression, social isolation, and neuroticism. • Targeting purpose may mitigate the health consequences of loneliness.
