• First low-dose modified clay method for filamentous cyanobacterium Raphidiopsis raciborskii. • Synergy between inorganic and organic modifiers reduces dosage to 3 mg/L. • Bauxite is optimal clay for modified flocculation of R. raciborskii. • Pre-oxidation with H₂O₂ prevents cell recovery for over 240 hours.
