• The proportion Borrelia-infected nymphs of Ixodes ticks was lower in mixed forests. • The prevalence of Borrelia infection increased with the richness of understory plant. • The prevalence of Rickettsia decreased with the richness of understorey plants. • The density of tick larvae increased with the proportion of plants palatable to roe deer.
