• A mannose-engineered Eu-MOF integrated the detection and inhibition of E. coli. • E. coli binding triggered opposite dual-emission changes for self-calibrated ratiometric sensing. • Colorimetry with smartphone RGB analysis allowed on-site E. coli detection. • Curcumin-mediated activity and mannose-induced targeting enhanced the antibacterial effects.
