• A novel peripheral Nexus adds economy, society and governance to WEFE analysis. • PRISMA review maps 120 studies across 26 indicators and 7 thematic categories. • Energy, food, and agricultural water dominate, each in 88–92% of the studies. • Environmental flow (47%), clean air (15%) and equity get the least attention. • Phi co-occurrence link socio-economic indicators most tightly (up to 0.72).
