• A 3D magnetic dipole model with rotational hyperboloid corrosion is established. • A centroid-based method accurately localizes circumferential corrosion centers. • A Boltzmann model quantitatively relates SMFL features to corrosion mass. • Repeatability and robustness are verified by repeated experiments and statistical analyses. • The proposed method enables quantitative assessment of corrosion in bridge stay cables.
