• Lithium mining in Argentina, Bolivia, and Chile, integrating geological, governance, socio-environmental, and climate factors. • A methodological approach to integrate factors is proposed to assess the potential for resource development. • The weight of each factor is contrasted with the current deposit development status. • Socioenvironmental conflicts and climate change impacts, do not appear as driving factors for resource development.
