Abstract

A novel mathematical model for the diffusion of VOCs in multilayered materials is developed based on the fugacity diffusion equation. The canonical diffusion coefficient is presented to compute the diffusion flux alongwith the fugacity. The present fugacity diffusion equation simultaneously ensures phase equilibrium and the continuity of diffusion flux at material-material interfaces. The VOCs emission from heterogeneous materials is simulated using the fugacity diffusion equation. Compared to other emission models in literature, interface conditions are not required to be written explicitly in the present model. An analytical solution is derived using the generalized integral transform technique. The presented model is validated against numerical simulation and experimental data in the literature. The presented analytical solution is of simple form and easy to be programmed.
