Abstract

In this paper, we consider the scattering of an acoustic plane wave by an elastic obstacle which contains an unknown impenetrable object inside. To provide target signatures for the inverse fluid-solid interaction problem, we introduce a modified far field operator depending on a parameter eta and show that the operator is injective with dense range provided that eta is not an eigenvalue of a new modified transmission problem. Moreover, we make use of the analytic Fredholm theory and the spectral theory of a self-adjoint compact operator to show the discreteness and existence of the modified interior transmission eigenvalues. Finally, we analyze the approximation of the eigenvalues from modified far field measurements of the scattered fluid pressure.
