• Ternary LDH/ZIF/CN heterojunction was fabricated to realize efficient interfacial charge migration. • Dual S-scheme charge transfer pathway was established to accelerate carrier separation. • In-situ characterizations were adopted to monitor reactive species evolution during PMS activation. • The photocatalysis-coupled PMS system realizes a high total organic carbon mineralization rate.
