• Stream sampler facilitates confined powder transport. • Flat surface and stable NIR spectral baseline achieved through confined powder flow. • Spectral baseline MBSD was used to monitor the mass steady state of continuous mixing. • Mass steady state occurred prior to the mixing steady states. • Mixing steady state was monitored using a PLS calibration model developed with only mean-centering.
