Molybdenum disilicide (MoSi2)-based oxidation-resistant coatings have emerged as a promising solution for protecting refractory alloys and carbon-based composites in extreme environments. This review summarizes the inherent challenges of MoSi2 coatings and highlights recent progress in compositional modulation, structural design, and process optimization. Finally, future directions are outlined, focusing on precise composition-structure design, scalable fabrication for complex components, and lifetime prediction under coupled extreme environments.
