Abstract

Designing High-rise Frame-Core Composite Structures (HFCCS) is challenging due to their scale and complexity. While the Finite Element Method (FEM) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) are essential tools, the iterative nature of design updates creates high computational and labor costs, hindering design optimization. In the current paper, an integrated multi-objective design framework is proposed that automatically converts basic CAD drawings into semantically enriched data, synchronizes the generation of FEM models and BIM models through multilevel parametric representation, and facilitates efficient optimization using a multi-objective hybrid genetic algorithm. A case study of a practical 20-story building demonstrates reductions of 56%-67% in concrete usage and 75%-88% in steel usage in the optimized designs. Beyond material savings, the approach facilitates downstream workflows by integrating FEM and BIM models. The proposed method can streamline the modeling and design of complex structures and accelerate multi-objective optimization.
