• Different ammonia/hydrogen/diesel blend fuels are employed in this work. • Effects of mixing fuel on spray, combustion and emission characteristics of diesel engine are investigated. • An artificial intelligence-based multi-objective optimization strategy has been proposed. • Advancing injection timing improves engine combustion characteristics.
