Abstract

Abstract

• A finite element model is enhanced by roughness in the axle-wheel contact • A coefficient of friction is defined locally for each element of the axle surface. • A discrete element model models the contact between the rough surfaces. • A deep learning AI model predicts the friction coefficients from DEM normal vectors. • Calibrated coefficients modify the stress fields and maximum values in FEM model.
