• CaO NPs were successfully synthesized by the hydrothermal method • Quasi-spherical nanoparticles (20–60 nm) with low agglomeration were observed • CaO NPs showed strong antibacterial, antifungal, and antioxidant activity. • Low cytotoxicity confirmed their good biocompatibility for biomedical applications.
