• An adaptive safety-zone division method is proposed to further reduce the seedling damage rate. • A multifunctional DL is developed to achieve safe zone division, weed classification, and weed stem position estimation. • A novel control system is developed to enable mechanical-laser collaborative weed control. • Preliminary results indicate that the mechanical-laser collaborative weeding method is feasible.
