A unified concept is presented that applies Talkative Power Conversion (TPC) to a broad class of Multiport Power Converters (MPCs). This is achieved by power/data dual modulation of the switching signal of switched-mode MPCs. The direction and share of power flow between all ports of an MPC is determined by a sophisticated power flow control strategy, while simultaneously information is bidirectionally routed between the MPC and external devices that are connected to its ports. By embedding TPC-based communication capabilities, potentials of MPCs are expanded, enabling value-added services and unlocking new possibilities for integrated communication and power transfer. The concept is supported by numerical and experimental verifications for a three-port H-bridge-based MPC.
