• A multiphase LBM model coupled with meshing flow is developed for cavitation study. • Cavitation distribution and jet flow in the gear meshing region are clarified. • The evolution of cavitation bubble collapse and impact on tooth surface is revealed. • Effects of speed, viscosity and distance between bubble and surface are analyzed.
