• Field fluctuations viscoplastic self-consistent crystal plasticity coupled with second order self-consistent homogenization. • The model features a grain fragmentation model, a recrystallization model, and a dislocation density-based hardening law for slip and twinning. • Improved predictions of the mechanical response and texture evolution for cubic and hexagonal polycrystals during deformation and recrystallization achieved.
