Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) offer a promising route for self-powered cathodic protection; yet their effectiveness is often limited by the insufficient electrical output of conventional triboelectric materials. Herein; we significantly improve the output performance of TENGs for metal protection by embedding two-dimensional sodium-doped poly(heptazine imide) (Na-PHI) nanosheets into electrospun poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) nanofibers. As a functional filler; Na-PHI facilitates the formation of the polar β-phase in PVDF and elevates surface charge density; endowing the composite with good triboelectric characteristics. The optimized TENG with 0.025 wt% Na-PHI exhibits significantly enhanced electrical outputs; delivering a 56.09% higher short-circuit current and a 98.28% higher charge density than the pure PVDF-based TENG. When employed for protecting Q235 carbon steel in a simulated seawater environment; the TENG delivers a substantial negative shift in corrosion potential and reduces the charge-transfer resistance; effectively suppressing anodic dissolution. Immersion tests further confirm nearly complete corrosion inhibition. This work presents a feasible and effective material strategy to enhance TENG output and demonstrates its promising application in self-powered anti-corrosion systems for marine infrastructure.
