Risk-adapted treatment strategies have been recommended for patients with rectal cancer. In our previous phase II study, neoadjuvant chemotherapy with capecitabine and oxaliplatin resulted in substantial tumor responses and encouraging survival outcomes for patients with locally advanced rectal cancer.
