Abstract

Spatial modulation (SM) conveys additional information using antenna patterns in MIMO system. The existing SM schemes limit the active antennas to a fixed number in each transmit vector to avoid detection ambiguity. Motivated by this, we introduce a new block-based SM (BSM) scheme wherein transmit vectors can have different number of active antennas, with the constraint that the total number of active antennas over a transmission block is fixed. This enables us to not only avoid detection ambiguity but also achieve low bit error rate than an existing SM scheme.
