• We design novel NHVO-Co composite by introducing the cobalt-based MOF (ZIF-67) precursors. • The as-assembled Zn//NHVO-2Co batteries deliver a specific capacity 646.4 mA h g−1 at 0.2 A g−1. • The full cells provide stable operation within a temperature range from 25 °C to −10 °C.
