Abstract

• The ZIF-8/PES composite membrane extending over the centimeter scale for highly efficient H2/CO2 separation were fabricated via a non-solvent-induced phase separation (NIPS)-trigged in situ crystallization strategy. A dense and thin ZIF-8/PES membrane with a thickness of 540 nm was fabricated on the surface of the PES skin layer. • The fabricated ZIF-8/PES composite membrane under optimized conditions exhibited excellent H2/CO2 selectivity of 72.3 ± 3.35, significantly higher than the 2008 Robeson upper bound, while maintaining a high H2 permeability of 1051.7 ± 30.60 Barrer. • The ZIF-8/PES composite membrane exhibited long-term operational durability for 120 h.
