Abstract

• A Helmholtz–Duffing absorber (HDA) featuring asymmetric stiffness is proposed. • The unique dynamic behavior of the HDA is elucidated. • A HDA prototype is tested, confirming accurate physical implementation. • Vibration suppression under impulsive or harmonic excitation is experimentally studied. • Numerical results confirm the robust vibration suppression of the HDA.
