• A mixed-lubrication model for line-seal plunger pairs (LSPPs) is developed and validated. • The model predicts leakage and friction with approximately 91.0% and 91.6% accuracy. • Surface roughness below 0.64 μm is critical for mixed lubrication of mating surfaces . • Longer sealing strips decrease leakage but increase friction; optimal length is 1–1.5 mm.
