• Ω-shaped reentrant microchannels (REEM) were developed for microchannel heat sinks. • Flow boiling process of REEM was numerically simulated compared to rectangular microchannels (RECM). • REEM showed flow boiling heat transfer enhancement compared to RECM. • REEM with optimum upper slot width and middle circular cavity radius was obtained.
